PROJECTS > THE EXCHANGE, SWINDON

The Exchange, Swindon is a 17 acre town centre regeneration proposal produced by the London masterplanning team on behalf of Akeler.

The proposals provided a vision for a vibrant, sustainable new town quarter, creating a high quality mixed-use heart with a whole new range and quality of facilities for the community to enjoy in unique and enduring surroundings.

The vision for The Exchange centres on re-establishing the urban grid and reconnecting the site with its surroundings. At its heart lies a series of major new public space as a focus for civic renaissance.

The scheme is truly mixed use, providing a mix of retail, leisure and commercial floorspace together with a hotel, apartments and family housing. A new landmark bus station and health and community facilities complete the mix.

The Exchange is driven by a sustainability strategy covering transport, ecology, placemaking, recycling and climate change. The development will employ a combination of renewable energy technologies, including a district heating / cooling system, and all buildings are designed to achieve BREEAM / Eco Homes Very Good rating.

The scheme has the potential to dramatically change perceptions of Swindon, reposition the town as an investment location and generate property assets upwards of £400 million.
